There's not much of a market for short films in the UK. Your best bet is to research what are the best festivals to enter your short into before you make it- and hope it catches someones eye.
Good luck.
Hi there,
I've got a short film going into production in January...Basically I wanna try and get the grand or so an investor gave us for part of the budget, back to him (keep him sweet for future, bigger projects).
Does anyone know the deal with short film distribution? Can you get your short film sold? And where should I try?
Cheers!
Dave.

It's not impossible to get a short film distributed, but it's unlikely to make you any sort of profit (in fact, it could cost you more money!)
The only shorts I know of that turn a profit are the ones around 30 seconds long on your TV.
Damn....
Places like BritShorts and BFI etc wouldn't be interested in a 10 minute comedy you reckon? What's the likelihood of selling directly to a TV station, even a local one maybe?
Dave.
That investor of yours will have a tough time getting his money back unless your short is absolutely brilliant.
I sold one of my shorts to the state broadcaster. They paid by the minute and I got just under a grand for my 10 minute piece. The film school took 33 percent form me though so I could have got quite a bit more.
Still not a profit mind as the thing cost me more like 2 grand.
